Last week Kate was sick, and was not happy as I tried to take pictures of her "Crazy Hair Day" hairstyle that she got at her school.

There is an indoor play area at the nearby mall, and Kate likes exploring and watching the bigger kids play.

Walking!

Katherine has been walking for a few weeks now!  Here is a video of her walking and playing outside on the tennis courts in our apartment complex.  (It's a good place for her to walk - flat, with minimal debris for her to pick up!)

Fun with a 13-month-old

 We've been having a lot of fun lately!  Katherine is showing more and more personality and preferences.  She has favorite toys (mainly wooden puzzle pieces), favorite places to crawl to in the apartment (the table where the wooden puzzles and books are), favorite foods (crackers, pasta, cheese, bread...) and favorite pages in books (one that makes her happy is of "the three little kittens who lost their mittens"). 

And most fun of all - Katherine took her first steps a few days ago!  She's mostly going on momentum and falls into our arms after a few steps, and usually still wants to hold on to as she walks.  But she's getting better!

Katherine's 1st birthday party

Last Saturday afternoon, we had a little party for Katherine's first birthday.  Grandma and Grandpa Luidens were in town, and we invited some of our Omaha friends as well.  The apartment was full of activity, and Kate had a lot of fun.  Our favorite part was when she ate a carrot cake cupcake - she grabbed it and ate it frosting side first!  Since then, Kate has starting saying "hi" and is getting better at standing holding on with only one hand...soon enough she will probably be walking!
